Blocking roads to flights: How UP govt is stopping Oppn from reaching Lakhimpur

Oct 04, 2021 09:25 IST | By Editorji News Desk

Uttar Pradesh government has blocked entry of political leaders to restive Lakhimpur Kheri where 8, including 4 farmers, were killed in violence on Sunday.

The UP government on Monday morning deployed police force outside former CM and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav's residence in Lucknow ahead of his scheduled visit to Lakhimpur Kheri. Yadav sat on a dharna outside his house as cops didn't allow him to proceed to Lakhimpur.

The govt also directed Lucknow airport officials not to allow Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel & Punjab Deputy CM Sukhjinder S Randhawa to land at the airport. The two Congress leaders have announced to visit Lakhimpur Kheri today.

Earlier on Monday morning, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has not been allowed to meet the victims families. The party has said that she was detained on way to the violence scene. Dramatic visuals showed a visibly agitated Priyanka Gandhi arguing with cops as her convoy is stopped at Sitapur.

BSP leader Satish Chandra Mishra was also not allowed to visit the area on Saturday night. Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh was also stopped in Sitapur on his way to Lakhimpur Kheri. The AAP has demanded a CBI probe into the violence.
