Covid-19 third wave in India: Are children more at risk? l IndiaSpend

Jun 11, 2021 18:03 IST

Will Covid19 third wave impact kids more? How to safeguard kids from another wave? IndiaSpend's Govindraj Ethiraj asks childcare specialists Dr. Tanu Singhal, Paediatrics and infectious disease, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Dr Amit Gupta, Director, Newborn Services, Oxford University.

Dr. Tanu Singhal says, " The prophecy that children are going to be affected more in the third wave does not really have a lot of scientific evidence behind it. The speculation is that in the first wave, we saw elderly people getting affected, then in the second wave, we saw a lot of young adults getting affected. So we think as that third wave comes in, children will get affected." She also adds that during the second wave, we saw more severe disease in children as compared to the first wave. Dr. Amit Gupta says that schools should not be opened up till everybody is vaccinated. Watch!
