How Trinamool team dodged UP govt blockade and managed to reach Lakhimpur

Oct 06, 2021 07:31 IST | By Editorji News Desk

Beating the UP government's efforts to block opposition leaders from visiting Lakhimpur Kheri, a delegation of Trinamool Congress leaders dodged UP Police on Tuesday and met with the families of farmers killed in Sunday's violence.

The Indian Express reported that the TMC team posed as tourists and managed to dodge the police blockades.

The TMC delegation comprised MPs Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Sushmita Dev, Abir Ranjan Biswas, Pratima Mondal and Dola Sen. They were trying to reach Lakhimpur Kheri since Sunday and could get there two days later.

They also split in two smaller groups to avoid recognition. While Dastidar and Dev went to Palia tehsil of the district to meet the kin of 19-year-old Lavpreet Singh, others travelled to Dhaurahra tehsil to meet relatives of Nachatar Singh.

"We haven’t come all the way here to joke around. There will be ‘khela’ here too. If the government here thinks that they are the only ones on the maidan, they are mistaken,” Dastidar said. also questioned why PM Modi had not met the families.
