For the study, researchers examined more than 74,000 people aged between 45 to 74. They were followed for approximately 15 years from 2009 to 2012. During the survey, the team adjusted other health conditions of participants including smoking, dietary habits, alcohol consumption and physical activity.

As per the findings, eating 4-5 peanuts per day is associated with a 13 percent lower risk of having cardiovascular disease. The link between peanut consumption and lowered risk of stroke and CVD is consistent in both men and women. It should be noted that peanuts are rich in heart-healthy nutrients like fatty acids, minerals, vitamins and dietary fibre that lowers the risk of heart disease.
