The explosions outside Kabul’s international airport has raised worries across the world, of the revival of the tune of a 'holy war' as an ISIS affiliate group ISIS-K claimed responsibility for the event.

Who is ISIS-K and why they are targeting not just the foreign nationals but also supporters for the Taliban in Afghanistan:-

Who is ISIS-Khorasan ?

  • The Islamic State Khorasan, or ISIS-K, is the Afghan offshoot of the Islamic State terror group ISIS. 
  • The Islamic State Khorasan formed in late 2014 and operates as an ISIS affiliate in Afghanistan as well as Pakistan.
  • The founding members included militants who left both the Afghan Taliban and the Pakistani Taliban.
  • The regional affiliate is governed with a strict interpretation of Islamic law.
  • The goal of ISIS-K as per regional experts is to build an Islamic caliphate across the Middle East and Asia that would include Afghanistan.
  • ISIS-K are part of the global IS network that seeks to carry out attacks on western, international and humanitarian targets wherever they can reach them.
  • ISIS-K publicly beheaded foreign journalists and inflicted brutalities on captured Kurds and others in Iraq and Syria.
